What the F@!* Even Is an Essay? A Virtual Workshop with StoryStudio Chicago

This August, I’ll be teaching a virtual essay class with StoryStudio Chicago, part of their annual StoryBoard Conference. Called “What the F@!* Even Is an Essay?” this class asks what an essay is at its most fundamental level, with a focus on form, content, and narrative POV. We’ll also look at the differences (and commonalities) between personal, lyric, and research essays, and discuss big questions like “does the truth exist” and “why is everyone writing in fragments now?”

Apply here!

The class will run virtually for three hours a day each weekdays from August 18-22nd. There will be 1 hour of craft talk each day, and 2 hours for workshops (2 students per day).

For the sixth year in a row, the StoryBoard Conference is pleased to bring a host of talented authors to the Studio (five in person, and three online) for a week of workshopping, community building with your cohort and instructor, and a special discussion with all five in-person authors.
